Valentine’s Day was very different prior to having children. It was an opportunity to have dinner and some quiet time with my husband and to be reminded of how much we valued and loved one another. Post kids, things are much different but I wouldn’t change it for a minute. Now I find this "holiday" to be a genuine way to show my kids how much I love them.
Some of the family traditions we have started with our children, include making a heart shaped dinner, usually consisting of breakfast foods, because don’t all children like breakfast foods? I usually also get a heart shaped balloon to tie on the back of the breakfast bar stools they sit at, so they can see a giant heart when they walk in. I have also found making my children meals has always been my way of showing my love for them, by filling their bellies and always carving out time for discussion to hear about their days.
